Norilsk Nickel says to invest 73 bln rbl in limestone production
MOSCOW, Feb 1 (PRIME) -- Russian metals giant Norilsk Nickel will invest over 73 billion rubles in the Mokulayevsky mine to produce 6.5 million tonnes of limestone per year in 2026, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
The mine’s facilities will be constructed 15 kilometers north of the main mining facilities of the Talnakh ore cluster.
The use the majority of the limestone to neutralize the sulfuric acid that emerges after entrapment of sulfur dioxide at the metallurgical plants.
Mine CEO Sergei Markitan said as quoted by the company that the Mokulayevsky mine would produce the first 40,000 tonnes of limestone in January–March 2022, and the combined production should reach 600,000 tonnes this year and grow to 2.3 million tonnes next year.
